Forest schools
This is new type of school where children and young adults work in a woodland setting. There are regular sessions to provide a natural setting so that the participants gain confidence, motivation, life skills and environmental awareness. The sessions are suited to the ability of the participants so that the projects are achievable and fun.
The project has been running for 6 years with new practitioners joining throughout. These people have run many projects involving wood work skills. This school provides a natural way to learn and I think that this school is the way forward.
Centre For Alternative Technology
The Centre for Alternative Technology is coming up with lots of new and innovative ideas. They are a company that specialize in creating and making lots of new ideas for more sustainable and Eco-friendly homes. One of their ideas is to have pipes underground that bring heat from outside or underground into the house. [and here is the link to their website...]
Hydro Power
We are all trying to find alternative ways in which to power our houses and generate electricity. We need these ways to be sustainable, so that we won't run out of it. One of these ways is Hydro Power. It can be one of the cheapest ways in which to generate sustainable electricity. Hydro Power is were electricity is generated with fast flowing water. Most projects are made by a waterfall or steep hill. This way, a lot of energy can be generated. An advantage is that if you have a good site, you might not have to use batteries or inverters ( an engine that powers a battery). The whole project could make up to 240 volts of electricity.
The cost of the schemes very high but if you do invest in it, it could give you loads of electricity and would be helping people in the future have energy to power there electrical equipment. In spring 2010, 'feed in tariffs' gives a good price for electricity generated. 1 reasonable size scheme can repay the costs in around 5 years.
