You should currently be completing the first part of your Introduction (Study Aims and Location). This should be handed in before we go on the field trip on Wednesday 8th July.

Writing your
INTRODUCTION
(Part 1)
You need to state what the study is about (aim), why you are doing it (reason) and where it is based (location).

AIM
1) State the title question.
2) Describe the related issues you will be trying to find out about.
E.g. why people visit the Dorset coast
how far people come from (the SPHERE OF INFLUENCE)
what people do/what facilities they use when they are there
…and at least one other factor you might need to consider.
3) Give a reason as to why this study might be important/how it could be used (e.g. future tourist developments, how to manage the coastline/erosion).
LOCATION
1) Describe the SITE AND SITUATION Studland and Swanage on a VARIETY of scales.
2) Use a variety of maps – fully integrated into your text (not as random floating sheets!), with TITLES and LABELS.
3) Describe what Studland is like – settlement HIERARCHY, history, current population, any issues for the area.
4) Describe what Swanage is like – settlement FUNCTION, settlement HIERARCHY*, population, any current issues.
